California trip. Exhaustingly fun.

1 09 2012

We took a week-long trip to California (San Diego and LA area) for my brother’s wedding as long as a vacation with the family.  Before I post any of our crazy pictures, here’s my congratulations to the happy and picture-perfect couple.

Our not-so-picture-perfect family.  Gosh.  We can’t even get everyone looking at the camera at the same time.

The wedding was a wonderful day, and great climax to the week.  But let me start from the beginning…

Our trip started out like this…

We had the taxi coming to our house at 6:15 a.m.  At 5:55 I get a call from my mom who was almost there.  Yep, the alarm didn’t go off.  Thankfully we made it to the airport with all our children (and more luggage than we had people).

We got held up in security, ran to the gate, and made it on the plane with window seats for the kids.  First flight for the twins and they did really well.  Malachi sat with Ethan and talked the entire way.  Linc sat with me and did workbooks the whole time.  Gigi and GC got stuck with a squirmy toddler.

The next day we went to Disneyland.  It really was so fun for the kids and for us.  My brother got us free tickets and we totally enjoyed the whole experience.

But based on their faces in this first picture, I dont’ think we were in for a very photogenic day.

The boys had a good time on the ferris wheel.  I had a GREAT time.

Exploring Tarzan’s treehouse (former Swiss Family Robinson).  Malachi really did have a good time.  I promise.

They continue to talk now (a month later) abt meeting Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend.  Twas the highlight.  Lincoln asked what his favorite color was and Malachi asked how old he was.

We win parents of the year for standing in 95 degree sun for 40 minutes to meet Minnie.  We tried to talk them out of it.

And Sara wins Auntie-of-the-year award for giving Malachi control of this ride going up and down.  And nearly getting sick!

It was surely the hottest week in the history of Southern Cali and we decided that would be the perfect time to head to a desert-like outdoor park/zoo.  Most of it was in the scorching sun, but suprisingly was one of our favorite parts of the trip.  The Wildlife Park specializes in rescuing endangered animals and helping to breed and re-introduce them into the wild.  They have beautiful expansive enclosures for the animals to roam and they are some of the strongest, healthiest in captivity we’ve seen.

He’s so cute.  Why do I look so weird?

We met our dear friends the Fernandos at their new home and had a great visit with them and their kids.  So fun to watch our kids play together.  The boys are still talking about them!
